Chapter three: Week 3

Week 3 Reflections

This week was all about immersing myself deeper into the Château de la Napoule’s layered history, weaving through tours, books, and archival treasures to uncover the components that make it truly unique. Coming from a background in architecture and spatial design, I was drawn to the personal stories intertwined with the history especially the passions of Marie and Henry Clews. It was a good reminder to keep my sources varied, as they bring layers of richness to my design work. Balancing preservation and improvement can be challenging, like with Marie’s gardens, which require patience and respect.

The memories I am building here from birthdays to artist trips have shown me the importance of preserving and respecting spaces that enrich human connections. I’ll be keeping this in mind as I dive into more research and design in the coming weeks.
