Chapter Twenty-two: Week 22

Designing Across Languages

Workday 03/04/2025

Thursday was a whirlwind of productivity and professional growth, beginning with an insightful meeting alongside a kitchen countertop specialist. This was more than just a technical consultation—it was an opportunity for me to deepen my understanding of materials, function, and visual cohesion within interior spaces. The conversation was a bit challenging at times due to the language barrier, but thanks to my ongoing efforts in French and the support of my colleagues from the French office, we were able to communicate effectively.

I was also responsible for making sure that Natasha’s design vision and practical expectations were clearly communicated, which was a significant responsibility. Despite being an intern, I felt a strong sense of trust placed in me, and I made sure to live up to it by documenting everything in photos and videos to keep Natasha updated from afar.

In the afternoon, I had the incredible opportunity to meet with Clémentine, the head of tourism for Mandelieu, to discuss the impact of social media. As someone still new to managing the Château’s private functions Instagram account, I was eager to learn from her experience in reaching diverse audiences and building engagement. She shared valuable advice on creating clear, beautiful, and emotionally resonant content. I left the meeting energised and full of new ideas for how to elevate the account’s storytelling and visibility especially as we enter wedding and event season.

In moments like these, I realize how multifaceted design truly is. It moves between physical materials and digital impressions, between conversations in real time and ones that happen through visuals online. I’m grateful that these experiences not only allow me to grow my skillset, but also to strengthen relationships and build trust whether with a president, a craftsman, or a tourism expert. Design, in all its forms, is about connection.
