Chapter Twenty-three: Week 23

Bringing the Garden to Life, One Flower at a Time

Workday 09/04/2025

Today was the day I truly got my hands dirty—quite literally, in the soil. I started much earlier than usual, armed with printed planting plans and a clear vision for the composition of the flower beds in the Lover’s Garden. Though we faced setbacks due to some missing plants, I reminded myself to stay grounded in the present. It would have been easy to dwell on the delay, but instead, I channeled my energy into assembling the beds with the flowers we did have. It was my first time planting in such a structured and design-driven way, and the experience felt both surreal and empowering. To be physically shaping a garden I had spent weeks planning was incredibly rewarding.

As we worked, curious children and students from visiting school groups stopped by to ask questions. I found myself explaining the project, sharing that we were bringing new life to the historic gardens of the Château. There was something deeply fulfilling about connecting with others through the work and seeing how intrigued they were by the transformation. I even had to make a few quick design decisions on the spot substituting one of the plants that hadn’t arrived with a similar species, keeping in mind height, texture, and overall balance. These unexpected choices made me feel more confident as a designer trusting my instincts while keeping the bigger picture in focus.

Midday, there was a notable shift in energy as a prestigious company visited the Château to explore it as a future venue for their corporate event. This was a significant moment for me, especially as someone who also manages the private functions Instagram account. I paid close attention to how they moved through the space, what caught their eye, and what language was used to describe the experience. They were drawn to the Château’s timeless charm, its luxurious feel, and its capacity to offer something truly unique. It was a live insight into our clientele, and an opportunity for me to better tailor our digital storytelling to reflect the atmosphere they are drawn to.

To close the day, I was invited by the director to join the artists for their dinner a gesture that felt like the perfect ending to a physically intense but emotionally rich day. I spent the evening exchanging stories with our resident Canadian artists and welcoming a new artist who had just arrived. There was warmth, laughter, and a shared appreciation for the Château’s creative spirit. It reminded me how interconnected everything is here from the gardens we plant, to the spaces we curate, to the stories we share. It was a moment to reflect on the day’s work and to appreciate how each task, no matter how different, contributes to a collective, meaningful vision.
