Chapter Twenty-six: Week 26

Gardens, Graphics, and the Glamour of Cannes

Workday 28/04/2025

Monday began with a fast-paced trip to Gamm Vert, the plant nursery where we source most of our greenery. This time, our goal extended beyond picking up the final batch of plants, we were also finalising a key element that had been under discussion all weekend: mulch. After researching various sustainable and economical options, I suggested we test two different wood chip types to complement the cool colour scheme of the Lover’s Garden.

I proposed photographing both samples laid out beside the plants for a clear, visual comparison. This proactive idea helped the American office quickly understand the options and make an informed decision. We settled on a beautiful dark brown mulch with red hues that brought out the richness of the garden’s greenery. The President of the Château and her sister praised my adaptability and initiative, recognising how effective this solution was in streamlining the decision-making process.

Later in the day, I shifted gears to work on a completely different design challenge: creating a chalkboard poster for the Château’s pop-up tea room. It was a refreshing contrast from the garden work fast, sketchy and intuitive. With limited time between meetings, I had to be agile and efficient, but also ensure the design felt welcoming, playful, and unique. I enjoyed the spontaneity of the task and was proud to see the final board placed at the entrance of the Château. The response was overwhelmingly positive, especially from the chef organising the tea room and my colleagues in the office, who appreciated the cheerful and inviting tone of the design.

To round off a fulfilling day, I had the incredible opportunity to attend the Canneseries 2025 festival. Although I don’t come from a film or photography background, the event left a strong impression on me. Witnessing storytelling through moving images sparked a fresh wave of inspiration, encouraging me to consider how narratives and emotional experiences can be shared across various forms of art.

It was a powerful reminder of the importance of adaptability and connecting with different audiences, both creatively and professionally. The evening ended with new connections, engaging conversations, and a renewed sense of creative energy for the week ahead.
