Chapter Twenty-seven: Week 27

Celebrations and Cinema Welcomings

Workday: 06/05/2025

Tuesday began on a joyful note that reminded me why I love working at the Château not only for the endless design opportunities, but for the strong sense of connection and family that pulses through its walls. It was Christophe’s birthday, one of the kind and steady members of the maintenance team, and the morning was sweetly dedicated to celebration. We shared laughter, stories from past projects and an assortment of traditional French pastries, croissants, pains au chocolat and more. These simple moments of togetherness always remind me that design is never just about space, but about the people who fill it.

Afterwards, I jumped back into the evolving plans for the Lover’s Garden, where I had been asked to source more plants this time white lantana to complement the topiary and work harmoniously with the pathway layout.

The request came quickly from the American office and once again, I had to rely on my adaptability and sharp eye for proportion and palette. With a tight turnaround, I sourced the exact plants needed, ensuring they worked with both the scale of the flower beds and the natural circulation of the space. This fluid, fast-paced approach has taught me how to balance aesthetic sensitivity with practical agility, an invaluable lesson in real-world design.

Later in the day, a series of exciting deliveries brought fresh energy into two very different spaces. The first was for Måncha’s bedroom a soft new mattress, blanket and accessories that helped refresh the space while staying true to its historic charm. The second was a subtle but essential upgrade to the Gothic dining room a set of cushions for the antique chairs to enhance comfort ahead of the Clews family’s arrival for the board meeting. There was no time to source entirely new furniture, but the cushions not only matched the rich colour palette of the room, they also offered a thoughtful, temporary solution.

As the day came to a close, I had the honour of welcoming the new Casa Cine residents, who are here to present at the Cannes Film Festival. Entering their world of moving images and cinematic storytelling opened my eyes to yet another powerful language of design, one of motion, emotion and light. I feel incredibly fortunate to support them through this chapter of their journey.
