Chapter Twenty-one: Week 21

Transforming Toilets and Canvas

Workday 25/03/2025

Tuesday’s design tasks took me in an unexpected but rewarding direction. I was given a project that directly connected to my studies in Ventura Spatial Design, specifically focused on redesigning bathroom spaces. My task was to measure the existing bathroom mirror and basin and find affordable yet functional replacements to enhance the outdoor bathrooms.

The challenge of balancing aesthetics with budget constraints was a true test of my problem-solving skills, especially considering the importance of making these spaces inviting and beautiful for the Château’s diverse visitors, including wedding guests and corporate attendees.

In the afternoon, I switched gears and worked on a more creative and unexpected project. While painting my mirror, I noticed a large canvas photograph that was about to be discarded. It was too prominent for the space, and the decision was made to remove it. However, rather than simply throwing it away, I saw an opportunity to repurpose it. Using acrylic paints, I transformed the photograph of the garden into a textured, vibrant artwork, giving it a new life and purpose.

The final piece was perfect for the office, which had been in need of artwork to fill its blank walls. I was thrilled to see how my creative intervention could breathe new life into something that would have otherwise been discarded. By the end of the day, I was proud of my ability to solve design challenges, think creatively, and make decisions that both solved immediate needs and enhanced the overall environment.
