Chapter Twenty-nine: Week 29

Soaked in Rain, Filled with Colour

Workday: 20/05/2025

From Monday’s sunshine to Tuesday’s storm, the shift in weather was dramatic but it didn’t dampen the spirit in the French Office. In fact, the rain arrived hand-in-hand with something we’d been eagerly waiting for: six perfectly sized Annabelle hydrangeas. It couldn’t have been a less convenient delivery day, but somehow it became one of the most iconic. Each hydrangea needed two people to carry, and the process of carefully transporting them to the Lover’s Garden while soaked in wind and rain turned into an unexpected bonding moment. There was laughter, teamwork, and a real sense of shared determination as we made it all happen, one step (and puddle) at a time.

Once dry again, I shifted from the wet earth of the garden back into a creative flow with my chalkboard commissions for Sylvie’s island kiosk. Drawing from the peaceful memories of Saint Margaret Island, I focused on storytelling, creating content that felt authentic, simple and rooted in place. I wanted each board to feel like a window into the island’s charm. Today, I finished three of them, and it was a joy to see how each design carried a little echo of the breeze, the sea, and the quiet magic of the landscape that first inspired them.

We ended the day with an unexpected gift, a box of macarons waiting for us in the office, just as the rain began to fade. It was such a sweet way to pause and reflect. Moments like this remind me that design is more than just tasks and outcomes; it’s about creating beauty, ease and connection for others. Whether it’s through a garden, a chalkboard, or simply being there to help, every gesture counts. And sometimes, the days that start with storms end with something a little sweeter.
