Chapter Thirty: Week 30

Crafted by Day, Celebrated by Night

Workday: 27/05/2025

The day began with a calm and focused energy, the kind that invites introspection. I spent the majority of the morning and early afternoon working on my DPS report, which required me to revisit and document the various design projects and creative challenges I’ve encountered over the past year. It wasn’t just about compiling work; it was about presenting it with clarity and care. From reflective writing and image curation to organising design renders and visual research, every detail mattered. This process really reminded me of how much I’ve grown not just in skill, but in confidence and perspective.

Later in the afternoon, I reached a long-awaited milestone Arnold, the son of the owner of the kiosk on the island, came to collect the final chalkboards I had completed. After investing between 30 and 40 hours into these bespoke commissions, it felt surreal to hand them over. His positive feedback and genuine appreciation filled me with a deep sense of accomplishment. It was a moment of shared gratitude not only for the opportunity, but also for the creative trust that had been placed in me. Knowing that these boards would soon be displayed in their intended setting gave the whole project a beautiful sense of closure and purpose. I looked forward to visiting them soon

As evening fell, the Château came to life once again for the opening of Éric Beridon’s exhibition — a conceptual French artist whose work plays delicately with light and natural forms. His pieces offered a quiet yet powerful interaction with the space, and I thoroughly enjoyed observing and photographing how they came alive in conversation with the guests.

It also provided a lovely opportunity to socialise and connect, particularly with Neddie Clews — a descendant of the Château’s founders and a talented photographer and videographer. Our conversation opened up inspiring reflections on legacy, storytelling, and the evolving creative vision of the Château.

The evening concluded with a shared meal and relaxed drinks among the Château team, residents, and visitors , a fitting end to a day filled with both solitude and celebration. The transition from a quiet morning of reflective work to an energetic evening of art and dialogue made me realise just how many different forms design and creativity can take in a single day. It was a rewarding reminder that our efforts, whether behind the scenes or centre stage, are always in service of something greater connection, experience, and meaningful impact.
