Chapter Ten: Week 10

In the Making and Planning

Workday 26/11/2024

It was another bustling day at the Château as we neared the final open studios this Friday. Nelcy and the entire office needed to evaluate each artist’s outcomes and establish an optimal order for visitors to move from studio to studio. This process demanded careful spatial planning and a deep understanding of circulation to ensure a smooth flow of people, allowing each artist to shine and present their work with the attention it deserves.

To build excitement for the upcoming open studios, I took charge of the Château’s Instagram, sharing sneak peeks of each artist at work. The response was positive, with many users engaging with the stories and expressing their enthusiasm for the event. This feedback motivated me to continue posting daily throughout the week, aiming to boost the event’s popularity and reach even further.

One of the greatest luxuries of this internship is the versatility of my roles. After managing social media posts, I assisted in a painting workshop with Madi, a painter in the Canadian residency. As the bridge between French and English, I helped her communicate with the children, as she didn’t speak French. Supporting her and connecting with the children was deeply satisfying and inspired me to continue improving my spoken French and even sign up for classes.

Design Across Time Zones: A Meeting with America

My workday didn’t end there. Due to the time difference with the president of the Château, I had a design meeting with Natasha at 9:30 pm. Although I was a bit fatigued from the day at the French office, I was energised by the opportunity to share my ideas and progress on the 2D plan and office redesigns. The meeting was both refreshing and pleasant, as it allowed me to nurture my relationship with Natasha. We found a lot of common ground in our design ideas and she gave the green light to most of my proposals. This alignment with my boss made me feel like a true part of her team and reinforced my confidence in our shared aesthetic vision.
