Chapter Seventeen: Week 17

Cultivating Beauty by Watching Life Unfold in Soil and Glass

Workday: 27/02/2025

Thursday started with a quiet moment of joy tiny green sprouts emerging from the soil, a sign that my herbs were beginning to grow. It was rewarding to see the results of my care and patience, yet even more meaningful was the lesson they carried: growth happens at its own pace. Some seeds flourished faster than others, and that was okay. It reminded me that progress isn’t always uniform, whether in nature, design, or personal development. What matters is the process, the nurturing, and the resilience behind it.

That afternoon, I visited La Verrerie in Biot, a village celebrated for its master glassblowing. Stepping into the workshops, I was captivated by the glowing furnaces and the rhythmic movements of artisans shaping molten glass. Seeing how they transformed raw material into intricate, delicate pieces was inspiring proof that with the right skill, even the most fluid and unpredictable medium could be harnessed into something extraordinary. Their craftsmanship and dedication made me reflect on the power of patience, precision, and creative experimentation.

More than just an afternoon visit, this experience left me with a new curiosity. The textures and movement of the glass sparked ideas about light, form, and craftsmanship in ways I hadn’t considered before. Perhaps one day, I’ll step out of my comfort zone and explore glass as a medium, letting its fluidity and unpredictability challenge me to think differently about my own creative process.
