Scent, Space, and Storytelling
Workday 12/03/2025

Today, I took most of the day off to celebrate my mother’s birthday. It was truly special to be part of a team and work environment that values emotional connections and the importance of life beyond professional achievements. Having the space to pause and cherish meaningful moments reminded me of the balance that fuels creativity. This day off was not just about stepping away from work it was about embracing experiences that inspire and shape my perspective as a designer.

We began our day at Fragonard, where we delved into the art of perfume-making. While scent may not seem directly connected to architecture and design, the experience of learning about fragrance compositions, undertones, and sensory layers sparked new thoughts about the role of smell in spatial design. Scents have the power to evoke emotions, transport people to memories, and define the character of a space just like colour, texture, and light. This realisation opened up a new avenue of curiosity for me, encouraging me to explore the subtle yet powerful connection between sensory experiences and the built environment.

To deepen our cultural immersion, we explored Grasse’s historic ceramic and house museums, where every detail told a story of craftsmanship and heritage. Wandering through these beautifully preserved spaces, I found myself drawn to the intricate ornamentation, rich textures, and layered history of French Riviera design. The experience was both grounding and inspiring, a reminder of how artistry transcends time. It was a day of reflection, appreciation, and creative recharge one that left me energised for the week ahead and grateful to have celebrated my mother in such a meaningful way.
